Brembo, the world leader in the design, development, and production of braking systems, has taken up the challenge of creating a MotoGP brake caliper that is now also available for road use. At EICMA 2018, Brembo premiered its first monobloc caliper machined from solid, which is likely to become the new high-performance benchmark for road bikes. The GP4-MS caliper is the latest addition to the Brembo range and is considered to be one of the most daring innovations in the field of braking systems.
The Brembo GP4-MS is a high-performance brake caliper designed for racing enthusiasts and those who want something unique for their bikes. It is inspired by the monobloc caliper used in MotoGP and is now available for general use. The Brembo GP4-MS comes with four 30mm diameter pistons that redefine the standards for calipers used in road bikes.
The performance of this product is comparable to that of the brake calipers used in the most significant motorcycle racing events worldwide. This is due to the combination of all the unique features of Brembo calipers utilized in the MotoGP industry, such as monobloc technology, solid machining, nickel surface finishing, and topological optimization in design.
The GP4-MS caliper shares the styling of Brembo Racing calipers of the future, with the aim of optimising rigidity and ensuring low weight.
Machined from solid
Manufactured from a solid block of machined aluminium, the innovative GP4-MS caliper is used in MotoGP and Superbike World Championships for bikes with 100mm centres, similar to Brembo calipers.
Manufacturing braking components via solid machining improves system performance due to better materials and high-temperature resistance compared to casting.
Topological optimisation
The process of achieving exceptional rigidity, unprecedented lightness and less deformation at high temperatures has been perfected by using topological optimizers. This software is derived from 40 years of Brembo victories in the premier World Championship class, and it makes it possible to optimize the shape of the caliper body. This whole process ensures that the caliper body is optimized for performance and is able to withstand high temperatures without deformation.
Nickel Finishing
The Brembo GP4-MS caliper, like its competitors, features nickel surface finishing. This process not only enhances its aesthetics but also allows for strict manufacturing tolerances, resulting in improved performance and operating precision.
Moreover, the Brembo caliper is equipped with a double seal system – one inside the piston and another as a dust cover. This ensures maximum on-road freedom without the need for regular checks, which is commonly required for racing calipers.
The Brembo GP4-MS caliper is the highest-performing Brembo caliper for road bikes. The GP4 family of calipers includes the Brembo GP4-RS monobloc caliper, the GP4-RR monobloc caliper machined exclusively for racing applications, and the GP4-RX caliper, a two-piece caliper also machined from solid.
The Brembo GP4-MS caliper kit comes with high-performance sintered pads, which are the top choice for mixed road and track use. The kit also includes all the small parts needed for assembly, as well as instructions. Additionally, the kit comes with heat-sensitive adhesive stickers that are used in the MotoGP world to assess the operating temperature reached by the calipers after each session.
The Brembo GP4-MS caliper is compatible with the Brembo Racing Z04 pads used in the World Superbike, Supersport, and Moto2 Championships.
